The five competency areas
The exam is built around five areas of teaching every student:
- Student Diversity in the Classroom
- English Language Learners in the Classroom
- Learners with Disabilities and Special Needs
- Teacher Responsibilities: Legal and Ethical
- School and Home Partnerships
Cert-ified's 27 modules follow these same five areas.
How the written case studies work
Three of your tasks are short written responses — one each for student diversity, English language learners, and learners with disabilities. Each gives you classroom exhibits (a student profile, a work sample, a teacher log) and asks for a 100–200 word response.
Together the written responses are about 30% of your score, and graders look for evidence cited from the exhibits, a sound instructional strategy, and clear Edited American English. See our constructed-response guide for how to approach them.
How scoring works
Your selected-response answers and written responses are combined and converted to a scaled score from 400 to 600. A scaled score of 520 or higher passes. There is no penalty for guessing on multiple-choice, so answer every question.
